On Wednesday, December 21st, The Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust announced its Moving Mountains grant award winners in the spirit and principles of self-help, social responsibility, and human rights.
The Moving Mountains Grant Awards focused on projects aligned with 2 of the Leon H. Sullivan Trust’s 3 Strategic Plan program areas: Education and Training and Economic Development. The “Trust” has awarded 6-organizations their new Moving Mountains Grant Award and three individuals enrolled in Trade Schools.
“The grants are founded on the principles of Dr. Sullivan. We’re following our mission for entrepreneur training and entrepreneur development. We want to instill (in all of you) the principles of self-help. If we can give you–a minimal amount of help, you can take it from there. This is why we have initiated the ‘Moving Mountain Grant’ and the ‘Step Up Scholarship’ Award,” said Debra White, on why this award ceremony is significant.
The winners were:
Scholarship Recipients-Terry Campbell and Terrea Brown. This scholarship was awarded to these two students (who are entering trade school) in recognition of their academic achievements.
The Business Center for Entrepreneurship-The Business center provides the education and business networking programs necessary to strengthen the business formation required to contribute to improving Northwest Philadelphia’s minority business ecosystem. Their mission is to equip both adults and youth with the tools to start, sustain and expand their enterprises.
Farmer Jawn & Friends Fund–Non-profit workforce development and an educational affiliate for Farmerjawn Agriculture. Farmerjawn Agriculture is a black-owned, woman-owned farm and retail business that follows regenerative farming practices concentrating on soil health and increasing access to organic food for marginalized communities.
