“If the white man wants to lynch me, that’s his problem. If he has the power to lynch me, that’s my problem. Racism is not a question of attitude; it’s a question of power.” Kwame Ture
Teaching in the classroom, writing books, and writing for SCOOP under the leadership of sister Sherri Darden and the vision of Baba Sonny Driver has given me the platform and blessed opportunity to enlighten the Black masses of our triumphant leaders of the past and present. Words can’t express how I feel when a student earns an ‘A’ grade on a Black history examination or I receive correspondence from a dedicated SCOOP reader who has just been inspired and educated about an amazing African freedom fighter.
This evening, it gives me great pleasure to unfold seg- ments of the life and accomplishments of a powerful Black freedom fighter who remained biologically, emotionally, historically, and spiritually committed to Black people. A freedom fighter who loved Black people un- conditionally, unashamedly, and non-apologetically.
I write and speak of no other than our Prophet of Black Power, Brother Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael)!
When we examine Brother Ture’s life, we receive a well-equipped example of Black Manhood and African life!
Sisters and brothers, the Black community must never be allowed to forget that enslaved people who do not respect and honor those who struggle against their enslavement are doomed to remain slaves forever!
