The residents of Delaware County came out in droves to celebrate the Nation’s newest Federal holiday. Celebrations were held in Chester City, Trainer Borough, and in the County’s Seat of Government in Media’s Rosetree Park.
Trainer Borough’s Juneteenth celebration showcased artwork painted by a local citizen and powerful images of a young family dressed in attire to create a disturbing visual of what it was like to be a slave.
Chester City’s celebration included African drummers, live music, dance groups, and other stage performances in a spectacular show emceed by Chester native Anthony Moore.
The Juneteenth celebration in Rosetree Park was all-inclusive, featuring a rousing rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner performed by Penn Wood High School student Miss Bullock. Lift Every Voice was performed by Michaela Santisi. There was a very patriotic feel about the event, which featured speeches by Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, Council Chair Dr. Monica Taylor, Councilman Womack, Inclusion Officer Lauren Footman, and Sheriff Jerry Brown. Also performing were Upper Darby Calvary Baptist Dancers, Chester School District Main Street Steppers, The Children of Adam Band, Dell-P, and the history of Juneteenth by the 3rd Color Regiment.
