I know for sure that I’ve used the headline “Attitude of Gratitude” before, for sure, particularly during this time of year, Thanksgiving. It’s a statement that I believe in, and I try my darndest to live by. Because I’m human, I fall short, more often than I’d like to admit. I catch myself sweating the small stuff, which is so silly. Why get yourself all caught up in a knot about things that really aren’t that deep? Just be thankful. Be grateful.
Some people get caught up in the Holidays, and just because it’s “Thanksgiving,” all of a sudden, they want to get “Thankful” about something. I won’t criticize, but I‘m just saying, why not try to be thankful year-round. Then if you fall short, you fall short, but at least you put the effort out there all the time.
Have you ever met folk who just never seem happy or thankful about anything? You can be standing right next to them when they receive a blessing, and they’ll still say, “Well, I know God just blessed me with a new job, but it’s not enough money. I need more.” People like that, I just shake my head. Once a few years ago, when I had made some extra money, and I wanted to help someone out in my family who I knew needed some help, I gave them two thousand dollars, no strings attached. I gave it to them in cash. They didn’t say thank you. What they said was, “Humph, I need $5,000.00.” No “thank you.” I just walked away from them in disappointment. Some friends told me I should have taken my money back, but I didn’t.
