Get Set. Get Ready. Be Registered To Vote

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Now that we are into the month of September, if you have not yet registered to vote but you say you want to vote, now is the time to do it.

If you are 18 or will be 18 by General Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, then now is the time to handle your business.

It takes less than 3 minutes to actually fill out a voter registration form online or in person.

You can go to any elected official’s office during nor- mal business hours and fill out a voter registration form in person. Or you can log on at www. Philavotes.com and fill out the form that way. You can also register to vote by mail when you go to that website.

The other thing you gotta do is be prepared for who you are voting for.

This year Philadelphians need to decide who their 100th Mayor will be. All 17 city council seats are up for grabs. The Sheriff’s seat is available, as is the Register of Wills, and City Controller and 3 City Commissioner seats are available as well.

There are seats open on Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia, and several Statewide Judicial seats are up for grabs. as well.

It is critical to take every election seriously and to participate.

It is our civic duty as American citizens to participate in the political process.

Beyond being concerned about the upcoming November 7th general election, we have to think beyond that date. The year 2024 is a presidential election year, and everything is at stake.

Why wait until tomorrow for what you can do today? Get yourself registered to vote, and then make sure you vote on Election Day or vote by mail before Election Day. Have questions, call the Philadelphia City Commissioner’s Office at 215-686-3462.

Meanwhile, keep reading the SCOOP every week, every edition of our newspaper, to get information about candidate forums, candidate meet and greets, and any other opportunities to hear from the men and women asking for your votes on Election Day.

All eyes are on Philadelphia as history will be made on General Election Day. Either an African American woman or an Asian man will walk away as the winner of the Mayoral candidate race. Many of us already think we know who the winner will be, but out of respect for the process, let’s see who will be declared the winner at the end of the day.

Whatever you do, get set, get ready to go vote.
