Get it together & get organized!

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The world is on the verge of returning to a normal way of life. Although COVID is still dangerous and many are still getting sick there have been major advancements in vaccine distribution and availability that have made it easier for government to loosen restrictions nationwide.

With the looser restrictions come the ability for businesses to open to full capacity. Therefore it is a good time to get organized and stay organized to reduce the anxiety that may come from now being in a work environment as opposed to a homework environment. Let’s step back and reorganize.
On a scale of 1 to 5, with five being the best, how organized would you say you feel right now? If you’re at the highest level, this article is not for you, but if you’re like me and still trying to get on track, please keep reading. Here are five steps to help us all get back into a healthy and organized rhythm.

Invest in Project Management Software

Software like Zoho, Smartsheet, Workfront Yalla, or Basecamp allows you to easily create projects and assign work to employees or team members. It keeps track of progress and will send reminders out of upcoming tasks. This type of software lessens confusion and increases productivity.

Choose Your Social Media Platform Wisely

Every type of social media is not necessarily the best for you. There are so many outlets from which to choose. You do not need to be on every single one of them. Think about who your audience is and what channels they are likely to use, then develop content geared towards them.

If you are in entertainment, you might want to explore music sites, blogs, vlogs, or social media platforms (i.e., TikTok, Spotify, etc.). If you’re more corporate-focused, you might want to create a page geared towards business planning and networking (i.e., LinkedIn, Facebook Business, YouTube, etc.). Even within each discipline, one might find a particular plat- form more engaging than another. For example, Pinterest is a visual type of social media platform. Therefore, if you’re into interior design or hair styling then Pinterest may be a great start for you. Just research all your options, and don’t get consumed with multiplicity.

Outsource Extra Work

Don’t be a one-man or woman show. If you have money in your budget consider outsourcing to experts in the particular field you need to help. Eliminate stress and let your extended team keep you organized by doing tasks that they specialize in while you concentrate on your overall vision.

Establish Project Milestones

Create a schedule (weekly, monthly, quarterly, or project by project) with specific projected goals. This allows everyone to know what is expected and by when. It also is a great way to ensure accountability.

Know Your Expenses

Business finances are an essential part of staying organized. You can grow your business faster by ensuring you are maintaining accurate expense sheets.

How much are you paying yourself, your team, or contractors? How much are monthly expenses? How much gets put into advertising or marketing, etc.? What is your current tax bracket, and what type of tax breaks you can get for your business are all questions that will help you focus and stay on task.

Invest in software like Quickbooks to keep income, expenses and projects organized. This way, your financial reporting will be much easier at tax time.

It is definitely a challenge to get back into a normal rhythm like we were pre-COVID-19. However, if we all put the work in and stay true to the task at hand, I am confident that we will be more successful than ever before. Stay encouraged and do the work!
