From 1899 until today, we are still building

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Well, Well, Well! Greetings, my SCOOP USA Media Family and Friends! Today, we have another “Moment In Time” where the Creator lifted up His arms and placed in our mist a jewel of momentous proportion!

Praise Be for the continuance of a historical legacy and to utilize a well-known phrase of our times, “And The Beat Goes On!” It is a testament to the groundbreaking ceremony at Philadelphia Technical Training Institute (PTTI) at Berean Institute, 1901 W. Girard Avenue, to express the sentiments of the day–Phenomenal, Powerful, Energetic, Insightful, Bold, Futuristic, Spiritually Uplifting; believe me, I can go on and on, but I’m sure you got the picture! The Captain of the ship, which was smooth sailing, navigated superbly, and the crew was right on time! Let’s give it up for Our Good Brother, God’s Lead Man Sherman McLeod, President and CEO of PTTI, and his co-pilot, Donald Jackson, Director of Education.

Remarks were given by Senator Sharif Street, PA State Committee Chair, who always shares words of compassion, forceful but gentle, thoughtful, strategic pushing forward dialogues. He spoke humbly of his journey into politics, and he always gives credence to his predecessor, his mentor, the Honorable Shirley Kitchen, and others. His message to the students, “Stay focused, work hard, utilize the opportunities given to them, and be a part of the growth and development of the Institute! Elections are important, and you must participate!” Also giving remarks was Councilman-at-Large Jim Harrity. He also spoke of his humble beginning and some of his challenges. He mentioned Sam Staten, Sr., one of the greatest Labor Leaders in the country, and how Brother Staten put him on his political path. Councilman Harrity also had some powerful and straightforward words to the students about being prepared, giving your all, and not being deterred or turned around when things got tough! He stated, “What a great resource for the students–with a new building, they will be able to help more people have a trade and map out strategies that will enhance their ability to achieve their desires, goals, and success in life. I’m proud and committed to helping assist all students who are taking control of their future.” Rep. Keith Harris also encouraged the students to give their all! He spoke of Rep. Frank Oliver, Rep. Andrew Carn, and myself, who worked to raise money for Berean Institute. Your future is now, and you are in a good place to work for it, plan for it, and do what’s important to make it happen! Councilman Jeffrey Young’s representative spoke to the students about their wants and desires. Saying to them, it’s on you! That’s right, it’s up to you, and you must put forth your best effort to bring about the positive change you’re pushing for!

I’m in agreement with everything that was said, and we all should be about lifting up this institution and be proud of a new foundation, a new beginning. There were speakers from the School Board, PIDC, PJJSC, DHS, BSI Construction Community, and myself. Everyone had promising words for our Young People–all spoke of collaboration and partnerships. The words that were said several times were caring for young people who were not there but needed avenues and relationships to get there! I added that many of the students there had folks to pave the way for them; therefore, they should be stepping stones for others. I also said that we need to create a PTTI Alumni so that there will be a direct connection with students who move on and become successful, as well as remain in contact with one another!
