Flashback of The Year 2022

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The year 2022 is now behind us, and yet I still have this crazy question, what happened to 2022? It’s gone? Some may be glad the old year is done.

For others, maybe not so much. What were some f the major national and international stories of 2022? Here we go.

In 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic may have fallen to the background in terms of hot news, but the reality is that Covid is still a health concern in America, and the pandemic has not been announced as over.

This news story got very little national media attention actually, but it is a story we cannot and should not forget. On January 3, 2022, unidentified attackers killed six Christian men in a Kenyan coastal village near the border of Somalia, beheading one of the victims and burning four of the bodies. One individual was shot in the head and killed.

In February 2022 (on exactly February 24, 2022), Russia announced the beginning of its “special military operation” against Ukraine; and shortly after, began attacking Ukraine using missiles, rockets, and airstrikes. These attacks were followed by a large-scale ground invasion on four primary fronts. The ongoing war has caused widespread devastation and contributed to a global economic crisis, a massive humanitarian crisis, and the death of up to 100,000 Ukrainians.

During the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, Chris Rock joked about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia and compared her to Demi Moore in G.I. Jane.

Smith walked up to the stage, slapped Rock on the face, and yelled out the F-bomb on national television. Smith later apologized to the Academy and the other nominees, but not Chris Rock. It made for a very messy situation. Afterward, ultimately, Will Smith was banned from attending Oscar events for ten years. Plus, he really just made himself look so bad, and that is not the Will Smith–so many of us have come to love over the years. Smith is a very talented actor who lost his mind for a minute. He’s very remorseful now.
