Team — The Supreme Court just overturned Roe v. Wade. At least 26 states could swiftly move to ban abortion following this ruling, meaning people in over half the country will no longer have power over their own bodies and their own lives. This ruling will have a disproportionate and devastating impact on Black, Latino, Indigenous communities, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, LGBTQ+ people, young people, immigrants, and those having difficulty making ends meet. Reproductive justice has always been about racial and economic justice, too. The anti-abortion movement has made it clear this is only the beginning of their attack on our freedoms. Their ultimate goal is to pass a nationwide abortion ban that would block abortion access in every state in the country. The right to an abortion shouldn’t come down to the whims of the Supreme Court, a politician, or even the president. It’s something that should be discussed between a person and their doctor. That’s why I have a 40-year commitment to defending reproductive rights. It’s why I voted the Women’s Health Protection Act through the House last year. And it’s why I’m going to keep fighting to defend safe and legal abortion for all Americans. We are officially in the fight to make sure everyone has the power to control their own bodies, lives, and futures. Congress must codify the right to abortion without delay. Please add your name now to join me in this fight. The Supreme Court is acting in defiance of the American people. I’m angry that it has gotten to this point, which is why I will not back down.
