I might sound like “flaky Annie,” or something, but I gotta open up and say what I’m thinking about this whole abortion issue.
That’s the difference between writing an article and writing a column. In an article you stick with the facts: Who, what, when, where, and why. In a column, you can certainly share facts, and I often do. However, you can also share your opinion. In the case of Roe versus Wade, the fact that the United States Supreme Court has now decided in their infinite wisdom that women should no longer have the right to choose what to do with their bodies, is astounding to me.
On a personal note, I have described myself to my close friends and family as a “fence-straddler” on this hot-button issue when we discuss the whole abortion issue. I believe that the moment of conception occurs when a man’s sperm connects with a fertile woman’s egg. It is like a seed that starts to grow roots that are so tiny and transparent you almost can’t see them. But if you water them each day–and give them sunlight or shade as it is called for, those seeds–do grow into plants and flowers.
I believe it is the same way with an embryo.
As a Christian, I know that one of the ten commandments is “Thy Shalt Not Kill,” so see what I mean when I say I’m fence-straddling?
Ok, let me put it like this: It’s a personal choice. Back to what I said before, a grown-behind woman should have the right to choose.
