Deputy Sheriff Struck by Motor Vehicle in Center City Philadelphia (10th & Filbert Street)

PHILADELPHIA, PA– The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office announced that today, May 25, 2022, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Leibman on official business was hit by a motor vehicle while traveling on a bicycle at the corner of 10thand Filbert Street. Deputy Sheriff Leibman was struck when a motor vehicle went through a traffic light while he was traveling to assist another Deputy Sheriff who is stationed at the Philadelphia Parking Authority at 913 Filbert Street, in downtown Philadelphia.

The vehicle did not stop after striking Deputy Sheriff Leibman. His family has been notified that he is injured but is in stable condition and will be released from the hospital soon. The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office is grateful to witnesses for their timely assistance in this matter.

Deputy Sheriff Leibman has been with the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office for nearly five (5) years and has been a member of our bike unit for three (3) years. It is expected that the Sheriff’s Office bicycle will be replaced due to the damage sustained in the incident.
