Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer’s approach to tackling the gun violence epidemic that plagued Chester was insightful and innovative, so much so that Philadelphia sent a delegation of City Council members to Chester to find out the city managed a 63% drop in gun violence.
On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Local 413 Union Hall, several members of Philadelphia City Council met with Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland, Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, and other local officials. At that time, homicides in Chester had dropped dramatically in the first six months of 2021 compared to January through June of the previous year.
Fast-forward to October 2023, Stollsteimer and his community collaborations have seen positive results and become the “most successful” anti-gun violence initiative in the state. On its third anniversary, Chester Partnerships for Safe Neighborhoods (CPSN) gathered at the playground at Lincoln Street and Concord Avenue to celebrate another year’s success in tackling gun violence. CPSN is investing the improvement of the playground, with Mor Construction slated to do renovations, including excavating and installing a French drain, tree trimming, excavating the area around playground equipment and installing playground-appropriate engineered wood “carpet, and painting and repairing equipment as needed.
