Council President Darrell Clarke visits the Philabundance Food Pop-Up

Reading Time: < 1 minute

City Council President Darrell Clarke and the Office of Children and Families partnered with Philabundance and PHA to distribute food to North Philadelphians experiencing food insecurity during this holiday season. Food insecurities have been an issue for many years, but the pandemic has worsened things. With food drives like these, there’s hope that the issue at hand will ultimately get resolved. Philabundance also wants to show that these partnerships can help connect Philadelphians with nutritious foods.

When Council President Clarke arrived, he was delighted to see the amount of food Philabundance was going to provide. He stated, “Today, we’re having one of our first food pop-ups. People are still having challenges… COVID is not over. The disease, the aftermath, and its impact… there’s still a lot of families that need help. We’re going to continue having these food pop-up events for those in need.”

When asked about what will come out of events like these, Clarke responded, “We’re going to have another event in January, in which we’ll have more resources such as flea markets and vendors. We want to make it such that people have every opportunity that they can have as it relates to obtaining food. We can’t sit back and wait for the federal government. We have to make these moves ourselves.”
