Congratulations!! Rashon M Howard, 2021 Diversity Leaders in Business awardee

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Rashon M. Howard is president of SHON LLC, based in Philadelphia, PA. SHON LLC is a financial literacy consulting company focused on bringing knowledgeable people and subject matter experts to urban communities to increase success opportunities.

Philadelphia Business Journal announced on July 23, 2021, that it had named Rashon M. Howard to the Diversity Business Leaders class of 2021. He was recognized in a virtual event.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion – from race and ethnicity to gender identity and sexuality – have become top of mind for businesses across the country over the last year. In an already diverse region, Greater Philadelphia companies have a wealth of talent from different backgrounds who impact the region and its business community through their leadership.

Celebrating that breadth of diversity, the Philadelphia Business Journal is proud to honor 25 diverse business leaders who have demonstrated success in their respective fields and made significant contributions through philanthropic endeavors.

Diversity Leaders in Business Awards honorees, selected from nominations submitted by the public, must be African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Middle Eastern, majority Native American, Alaskan, Hawaiian or Pacific Island heritage, or members of the LGBTQ community.

Collectively, these individuals represent a range of industries, from biotechnology and health care to government and law to higher education and nonprofits. Renamed this year, the Diversity Leaders in Business Awards showcase those who have made an indelible impact over the past 12 to 18 months.

Rashon consistency states, “A true testament of appreciation is the willingness to reach back and give back. When we are given great gifts, our biggest form of repayment is to pay it forward.”

Shelly Shell: What are the steps you take to champion the diversity cause?

Rashon Howard: The biggest threat to equality is a lack of education. Every step made by me or someone else should challenge the fabric of our education system, especially in our urban neighborhoods. Equitable education resources to everyone, then and only then will diversity, equality & inclusion be a real possibility.

Shelly Shell: What’s next, and how do we move forward to solutions?

Rashon Howard: The reality is, “you don’t know what you don’t know.” The solution is ensuring that all communities have access to information, knowledge & resources. We all have to work together to diversify the learning capabilities in all communities. Everyone has a leg in this battle; we are trying to correct a 400-year continuous mistake. It will take the whole village & hope for us to win.

Shelly Shell: What’s next for SHON LLC?

Rashon Howard: It’s an exciting time for SHON LLC; since the pandemic’s beginning, we have expanded our team. We also created foundational services that we know will directly impact the communities we serve. Over the next 12 months, SHON LLC will establish more partnerships with TRIO programs in Philadelphia, providing financial literacy & entrepreneurial skills to high school students.

Shelly Shell: Why the re-release of your book?

Rashon Howard: I started working on the re-release of Mentality of Success the Moment Volume 1 was published. The reason behind it, I created a high-level tool that I knew would challenge the general public to dream big. However, I did not build a resource or strategy to help battle the fear we commonly have, which is taking the first step. The Mentality of Success: 21 DAY Planner tackles this fear head-on.

Shelly Shell: Did you use the tools in the book to navigate quarantine and Covid?

Rashon Howard: One of the biggest positives that came out of the pandemic, time well spent is being rewarded with accelerated accomplishments, personal & professional growth. The tools in my book help me prioritize and organize my day during quarantine. The tools helped me most when I fell out of my routine and success habits. The book helped me visualize my goals, prioritize my task, and schedule my day, all while ensuring I made time for self-care and self-love activities.
