Civics 101

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We’ve got six and a half weeks, and then guess what happens? It will be time for the November 7 General Election. These next six weeks are going to fly by with a lot at stake.

In Philadelphia, we’re looking at voting in a new Mayor, a Sheriff, a City Controller, a Register of Wills, some Judges in both Municipal and Common Pleas Court, and all seventeen City Council seats are up for grabs. Ten of the City Council seats are district seats, and 7 of those seats are At-Large seats. Two of those seven At-Large seats are usually held by Republicans. Keep records of wills, estate inventories, and related documents. Act as an agent for filing and paying inheritance taxes. Maintain the dockets and records of the Orphan’s Court. They can walk you through the probate process, but we cannot provide legal advice. They may recommend that you get an attorney.

Let me remind everyone that the deadline date to register to vote, if you want to vote in the November 7th general election is Monday, October 23. Tuesday, October 31 is the last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot. You should also know that if you go to the City of Philadelphia City Commissioner’s ,…
