The Philadelphia Commerce Department hosted a PHL TCB Pep Rally to celebrate the impressive cleaning efforts of 200 Cleaning Ambassadors on 85 commercial corridors citywide. Mayor Kenney provided general remarks. City council members were in attendance announcing awards to the cleaning crews who enhance litter reduction within their districts. The event included motivational testimonies from corridor merchants and cleaning ambassadors whose lives have been positively impacted by the Philadelphia Taking Care of Business (TCB) Clean Corridors Program. This event was held at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center at 22nd Street and Cecil B. Moore Ave.
Championed by Councilmember Cherelle Parker in 2019, the Taking Care of Business (TCB) Clean Corridors Program funds 39 community-based non-profits to sweep sidewalks and remove litter along neighborhood commercial corridors. The 200 PHL TCB Cleaning Ambassadors have been and continue to be the fortress of litter reduction along neighborhood commercial corridors, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, business economic recovery and commercial foot traffic are improving citywide.
On April 14th, the Department of Commerce released a report prepared by the policy research firm Econsult Solutions sharing the 2021 impact of the PHL TCB. Findings from the 2021 report will assist the Commerce department in fine-tuning the TCB program for even greater future performance.
