Chester Police Department promotes two officers and looks to increase ranks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

At the scheduled Chester City Council Meeting on Wednesday, February 8th, two officers from the Chester Police Department were promoted to the rank of Captain. As family and friends looked on from the gallery, Mayor Kirkland, Chester City Council, Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky, and Deputy Commissioner Katrina Blackwell awarded Sergeants William Carey and Josh Dewees the ranks of Captain.

Captain Carey will be taking charge of all training within the department. Captain Dewees will supervise the Patrol Division. “Thank you for allowing me to serve. I’ve spent life in Chester, was educated here, and work in the city, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter,” commented Carey. Carey’s family looked on proudly as his Sergeant’s shield was pinned on.

“Five years ago, when I was promoted to Sergeant, I committed to building stronger, safer community partnerships, and I’m looking to continue to build on that,” said Dewees. As an added note, Dewees comes from a family dedicated to service to the Chester Police Department. His father, retired Captain Allen Davis, was injured in the line of duty after sustaining a gunshot wound on March 12, 2016. It was with tremendous pride that Davis watched as his son accepted his promotion.
