Monday, January 16th, the MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester and Vicinity held its annual MLK event at the Keystone First Wellness and Opportunity Center, located at 1929 West 9th Street in Chester. MLK Vice Chairwoman Twyla Simpson, a retired Chester Upland School District Educator, took great care in gathering all the participants for this year’s event. The volunteers for this year’s event included Greater Philadelphia Global Impact Organization, Keystone First Wellness, and Opportunity Center, Kearni Warren, National Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, Xi Chapter, Chester’s Tau Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Minaret Court #154, Minaret #174, Of AEAONMS, Inc., and Jean-Pierre Brice of CMP Radio.
Complementary tours were offered by Dr. Dexter Davis, and complimentary transportation was provided by Chester’s own Chef Lamont and his Midway Transit minibus. Dr. Kristen Motley-Ball and students offered vaccines, flu shots, and complimentary self-test Covid kits.
There was something of interest for everyone to enjoy as master crafter Maxine Johnson shared her knowledge on creating journals from recycled paper. Reverend Dr. Hilda Campbell of Emir’s Healing Center had a perpetual line of people waiting for her ever-popular “Dream Pillows” all day.
