Rosetta Carter, Director of Health Education for the City of Chester, was honored at City Council Meeting on Wednesday, August 24th, with Scoop USA Media’s Community Service Award. The award was originally scheduled to be presented to Carter on Saturday, August 20th, at Scoop’s Annual Community Day celebration; but, due to some scheduling conflicts, a Scoop representative made the presentation following Council business.
Carter, a Chester native and long-standing advocate for the citizens of Chester, has made it her mission to seek out and secure any and all services that add to the quality of life for Chester and other communities. A visionary, she was on the front lines at the very beginning of the pandemic, securing testing, vaccines, food, volunteers, and anything else that was necessary. From diabetic education to eye care, to heart health, to Lead Poisoning and cancer screenings, Carter has kept Chester’s citizens informed on issues that affect and truly matter to families here and in other parts of the Commonwealth.
What makes Carter’s accomplishments so poignant is that she did a lot of them while she was in the fight of her life against Breast Cancer. Upon acceptance of her award, she expressed her gratitude and shared her journey with the audience. I’m happy to say that Carter has completed her final treatment and is recovering nicely. As her three sons and other family friends and well-wishers looked on, Carter said, “To God Be The Glory.” A small intimate luncheon catered by Emir’s Red Brick Café followed the presentation.
