Celebrating Black Women Elected Officials over the years, Pt. II

Reading Time: < 1 minute

As we continue to observe Black History Month, today’s column is part two of the column I wrote during the first week of Black History Month, which spotlighted African American women elected officials, largely from Philadelphia.

There are an additional twelve African American women lawmakers I am including today. They are PA State Representative Donna Bullock, PA State Rep. Gina H. Curry, PA State Rep. Carol Hill Evans, PA State Rep. Carol Kazeem, PA State Rep. Lindsay Powell, PA State Rep. La Tasha D. Mayes, PA State Rep. Regina Young, PA State Rep. Johanny Cepeda Freytiz, PA State Rep. Morgan Cephas, Philadelphia City Councilwoman At Large Katherine Gilmore Richardson, City Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier and Philadelphia City Councilwoman At Large Kendra Brooks.

It’s so important that we know our history, and while the SCOOP USA Media Newspaper, as a Black-owned media outlet, has the pleasure of sharing Black History all year long, not just during February it is important that we get more of our parents, educators, and others to adopt that mindset and teach that history to our children every chance we can.

We want our boys and girls and others to know our history and know that we come from great kings and queens originally from the motherland of Africa. And while we are still not where our people as African Americans should be, I want to acknowledge that we’ve still come a long way.
