Grace Baptist Church was the site of a Philadelphia city council-at-large candidates forum Monday evening April 17th. This event was co-hosted by a group of organizations, East Mount Airy Neighbors, West Mount Airy Neighbors, Face to Face, and several other groups. The forum was moderated by yours truly, Thera Martin, and Daniel Pearson, an opinion columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
While nine candidates RSVP’d their attendance, others did not, leaving us with seventeen candidates to interview. It was challenging, but we got it done. For the candidates who were there, they were pretty impressive. Of the 17 candidates, none of them stumbled or stuttered. They had good answers to the questions asked.
I would note that all the questions were written by the stakeholders who hosted the event.
Candidates who were there included incumbent city council-at-large candidates Catherine Gilmore Richardson and incumbent city councilman-at-large Isiah Thomas and incumbent city councilman-at-large Jim Harrity. Other at-large candidates in attendance, all Democrats, were: Abu Edwards, Melissa Robbins, Donovan West, Michelle Prettyman, Deshawnda Williams, Nina Ahmad, Jalon Alexander, Sherrie Cohen, Erica Almoron, Rue Landau, Qiana Shredrick, Amanda McIllmurray, Christopher Booth, Luz Colon, Charles Reyes, and Job Itskowitz.
