The first week of August, Germantown Church of the Brethren, along with Supreme Gospel Entertainment and X-pressions, Incorporated, hosted its 2nd virtual camp with an emphasis on “All things Media.” Campers logged in from all across the country and as far as England to learn fun facts about the media and how it could help get their message out to the masses.
The goal of the camp was to get youth engaged in developing and executing an idea or topic that was dear to them. The camp counselors, Sherri Y. Johnson and Shelly Williams are both skilled professionals in the area of media, promotions, and marketing and served as the campers’ advisors throughout the process.
Youth learned about the various types of media, ranging from print to online and radio to television. They wrote a feature story, did a commercial, and read their copy to the entire camp. Coach Shelly explained to them that when beginning an interview, to be sure to do research on the topic or person. She continued to share that they must engage with the person they are interviewing by nodding their head or interjecting a fun fact. A video was played going over the essential steps of an interview and how to ensure it is done in the proper fashion.
