The Boys and Girls Club of Chester has long been a staple in the Chester Community though many overlook the importance of this iconic institution. It has helped many of our youth find focus and direction, which has served them well into adulthood. Many participants have made significant contributions to society because of what they have learned and the habits instilled by this institution.Â
It’s important to have places like the Boys and Girls Club in communities like Chester, and even more important to have strong, upright, and principled leadership. Derrick Billups is the CEO of The Boys and Girls Club of Chester; and he fits that bill to a tee. Billups is not new to serving the community. He is an entrepreneur who is a native Philadelphian. Raised in the North Philly section of Philadelphia, the former educator and financial advisor is familiar with growing up in a distressed community. As a child, he played tennis, and upon his return to the Philadelphia area from Virginia, where he was teaching, Billups became involved in the Arthur Ashe Foundation. He eventually became one of the Directors.Â
