Blue Stoop Announces “Power to the Pen: Writing for Revolution” and other Spring Classes

Reading Time: 2 minutes

PHILADELPHIA, PA – February 12, 2025 – Blue Stoop is excited to announce “Power to the Pen: Writing for Revolution,” a new in-person program funded by PECO and the Lindback Foundation. The program comprises subsidized classes and community-building opportunities for adult writers of all educational backgrounds. Full and partial scholarships are available to those earning less than $40,000/year and those impacted by the sudden closure of the University of the Arts.

New and returning Blue Stoop students will build their storytelling skills through poetry and essay writing in a supportive environment led by teaching artists Saskia Kercy and Nicole Young. Applications are due February 23, 2025. Visit bluestoop.org/power to learn more and apply.

In addition to the above, Blue Stoop’s spring class lineup includes “Beyond the Page: Performance Skills for Poets” with Dimitri Reyes and “The Queer Art of Friendship” with Kurt David, among other courses in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and navigating the publishing industry. Classes vary in length from 90 minutes to 6 weeks and take place online via Zoom or in-person in Center City.

“These classes are a great way to shake up your routine, make new friends, and deepen your dedication to the craft and business of writing,” said Taylor Townes and Julian Shendelman, Blue Stoop’s Co-Directors.

In addition to tuition-based classes, Blue Stoop is excited to launch a full slate of free and donation-based programs, including Creative Coworking: generative drop-in writing sessions, and Thursdays on the Stoop: weekly one-hour workshops on an array of writing-related subjects, led for and by the community.
