Blessed are those who live MA’AT

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There have been many days that we are faced with the unfortunate reality of Black people disrespecting, hurting, and killing each other all over this city. The slave mentality, which produces levels of fratricide and dis-unity has caused tears to be shed, and hearts to ache with unbearable pain and agony. The years of Black mothers losing their children have been a testament to our failure to properly raise and nurture our villages.

In Philadelphia, there have been 346 homicides in 2023, which is actually a 20% decrease from 2022. More than 1,000 people have been shot in Philadelphia so far.

Headline stories of gun violence in our city have been absolutely overwhelming and painful.

Dr. Amos Wilson, a brilliant Black psychologist, explains that “Black-on-Black violence is the result of socio-psychological, political and economic causes that serve to perpetuate white domination.” He also taught us that ultimately, the ending of (Black on Black) violence was primarily, if not solely, the responsibility of Black people.

In numerous articles, I have written that ‘Self-Hate’ is the number one disease amongst Black people. If we do not like and love what we see in the mirror, then we will lash out and try to destroy that which reminds us of ourselves.

The American media and propaganda machine has continually pushed the (Black on Black) crime saga with relentless images and top stories of our people dying in the streets. A shooting in the Black community will always be prioritized to become the lead story instead of the hard work of a Black family that has supported and nurtured a 9th-grade Valedictorian or a young sister who has a perfect score on her SATs.
