The Women of Upsilon Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority INC. will hold a Women’s Maternal Health in Salem County at Mother Baptist Church on Saturday, April 13th from 11 am to 3 pm.
Upsilon Delta Omega Chapter is the Voorhees, NJ, chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, a national African American sorority that works to help, educate, and uplift its community. Many members aim to uplift their community and are recognized for their success. Some hold jobs as educators, human resource officers, and journalists, where they use their skills and resources. This chapter has organized seminars and events, including fundraisers, food drives, and scholarships, to support young people in their studies and wellness. This time, they will hold a seminar in Salem to discuss Black Maternal Health.
This event aims to educate and inform women on topics and issues they may face when pregnant. Salem was chosen as the location because, unlike other counties in South Jersey, it is a very underserved community. The organization has encouraged people of all groups to attend the event to learn more about the problems.
“It is very important we are having it in Salem because it is a very underserved community with limited resources…it’s important we have our event there and ensure their needs are being met,” Annette John-Hall, Member of the Upsilon Delta Omega Chapter, said.
The seminar will also feature three speakers: doctors, authors, and researchers, who will share their field experiences. These speakers have prior experience engaging the Women’s Health seminar topic.
