My SCOOP USA Family, wow, time sure can get away from you when you don’t have a watch! I like to thank everyone who once again had me, my wifey, and my family in their prayers and for all the well-wishers who sent their congratulations for 48 years of blissful togetherness in marriage. Yes, I took some well-deserved time to reflect and enjoy it as well as having some quality time hanging with the Fam and Wifey! Thank you, thank you, and thanks again for keeping the information flowing, the education bumping, and the signs of the times insightful. You can’t close your eyes for a minute because you can’t miss anything that going on! It’s all-consuming and mind-boggling!
Greeting, my SCOOP USA Family. How’s everyone? I’m trusting and believing folks are moving right along even with the many storms! Welcome to life in 2022.
So, let’s get started with how we’re going to flow with one another this week! Rev. Joe Williams had a Saturday Night Blast in New City with our good brother, the cool as ice Bob Laws, International Talk Host. Many of us know him as an Information Legend, Co-Organizer of the Million Man March, and one of the premier news sources in the country for Black Folks. Always giving news we can use!
Rev. Joe spoke on the History of Gospel Music, “How it was.” “How it is now.” “And, how it should be.” In the discussion, Brother Bob Laws congratulated Rev. Joe Williams and the Dixie Hummingbirds for being inducted into the International African American Music Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. One of the many things Rev. Joe and Brother Bob kicked around during the show was the continual showing of interracial couples on many of the advertisements seen on TV today. It was a pure delight to hear these beautiful, wonderful, powerful brothers’ voices speaking and sharing with folks from all across the country! If you would like more information, go to Bob Laws/WLIB.org. Rev. Joe was extremely excited about having the opportunity to not only share a historical moment with the man of the evening, our great brother the Mighty Bob Laws–but also be a part of history himself with the Hummingbirds’ induction.
Rev. Joe closed the discussion with the statement, “When you can’t, God can. When you won’t, God will.”
Now, how about you and your history-making? This brings to light another highlight. Rev. Nick Taliaferro, host of Evening WURDs on WURD 900am & 96.1fm had Brother Ron Daniels, who ran for President and has always worked to galvanize and organize our people for great causes, as a guest. He had a saying which I live by and believe in: “We are the leaders we are looking for.”
My brothers and sisters, this is my Black History contribution to each of you! Reach One – Teach One!!! As Brother Daniels so eloquently said, we are who we are looking for. Every one of you should celebrate this Black History Month by making a historic significant moment with your family, friends, colleagues, co-workers, loved ones, or whomever. Share a cherished moment, a good deed, a special time that lifted someone, encouraged someone or created a bold and beautiful situation. History is about making a difference, changing something to make it better. Each and every one of us has to do all of the above, and I say, “Do it!” Make your historical marker today and plant it in the minds of others! Yes, this is Black History Month. Make it and share it!
So, as we celebrate and pay homage to all our historical legends, traditions, and significances, let’s remember those whose history is in helping and serving those in need! Eat Now Food Distribution Inc. has several volunteers who come out every Monday at 13th and Master St., next to the Athletic Field of Temple University, to provide groceries and home goods free of charge, rain or shine, and even during the last snowstorm. They specialize in vegan and organic nutrition. Ms. Sharron Collins, who is the Vice President, and Mr. Robert Collins, who is the Owner and Operator, strive to serve as many people of the community as possible. They understand that due to health regulations all of their clientele may not be able to come to 13th Street. So, if you would like to inquire about Home Delivery Services, you can contact “eatnowphilly@gmail.com” for additional information. Once again, all are welcome, and distribution begins at 10:30 am. Mr. Leroy Ducon, Program Assistant added, “This food pantry is a lifeline for many people in the community, and we as volunteers find great pride in serving and helping those who may need assistance at that time. We are always looking to encourage folks to come out.” I would love to thank Ms. Tina Robinson for making this connection possible! She is one of our Community Heroes making a difference!
Let’s celebrate and be proud of doing it! I’m doing the best I can with what I’ve got, Brother Tyrone L. Reed
