Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity thank lawmakers and nonprofits fighting to stop violence and standing up for education

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Rev. Maxey, CEO of Black Clergy, stated: “We’ve come together today to celebrate these times. We’ve come to have a press party with our members, political friends, and community groups. We’re so happy that there’s more money for violence prevention programs. We’re happy that there’s more money for education. More money to improve school safety across the state! It’s time to celebrate more money for health services in our schools. It’s time to celebrate more money for adult mental health services, time to celebrate more money than ever before for Philadelphia public schools.

This is going to make a difference for our children. Our children are our future. For far too long, we have robbed them of the quality of education. Some of those past wrongs can be made right.”

PA State Senator Sharif Street, Democratic Chair of the PA Crime Prevention Caucus, has been calling for targeted funding to positively affect rising gun violence across the Commonwealth, “$333 million per year for 3 years, $100 million for the city of Philadelphia and $233 million for Pennsylvania,” stated Rev. Robert Collier, Sr., President of the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity. Collier added, “ PA State Senator Vincent Hughes has been working hard to get $3.75 billion, taking advantage of an expected $6 billion year-end state ending balance, to address generational inequity, crumbling school infrastructure, and staffing. Both these lawmakers and several others are praised for their efforts in bringing home desperately needing funds into Philadelphia.”
