Betrayal of Trust or Because I allow you to?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s becoming abundantly clear that the people, systems, and institutions in which the United States puts its faith and trust are failing us on an enormous level and at increasing higher rates. These are the people we’ve chosen, systems we’ve accepted, and institutions we’ve allowed to continue without checks and balances. For those with doubts, you only need to refer to the recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade after 50 years of being the law of the land.

First, let me clarify my position on the matter by saying I believe that abortion is murder. I came to this decision only after my conversion to Catholicism. Prior to that time, I was an advocate of abortion, believing that it was my right. I was a 17-year-old girl when Roe v. Wade became the law of the land, and it gave me a sense of security. As a child, I ear hustled as my mother, grandmother, aunts, and elder cousins whispered about procedures gone awry. I had heard my share of the horror stories about the women and young girls who suffered through back-alley abortions at the hands of some unscrupulous individuals. Then there were the young girls who disappeared from the community for a time only to resurface later…another baby sister or brother added to the family. Whispers circulated but never substantiated as to the circumstances surrounding the young lady’s absence and the addition to the family. Though it was never said outright, it was evident that it was an unwanted or unexpected pregnancy.
