On Sunday, September 12, the Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church Music & Fine Arts Ministry hosted its first concert since COVID, and it was to celebrate the video release of the hit song “Jesus You’re Beautiful,” which was written by Scot Stevens. The concert was hosted at their beautiful church located at 4541 N. Broad Street, and it did not disappoint.
Emceed by yours truly, the event began with awesome praise and worship by the BSJ Praise Team. They started with the hand-raising song by Anthony Brown, “This Week.” The entire audience was up on their feet just bopping heads and dancing. After the praise team ushered in a dynamic worship atmosphere, it was time for the praise dancers to continue the flow. They beautifully interpreted through dance the words to “Blessed” originally done by Fred Hammond with their blue and white praise dance flags.
Once the praise dancers finished, the choir took center stage with nonstop feel-good praise music. They began with a smooth melodic song entitled “I Am Redeemed” followed by a favorite–“Come to Jesus” (Tri-State Mass Choir) that was full of energy. They slowed down things a bit with a song that talked about the “Blood.” The soloist put her heart into every part of the song, even when the mic went dead, she kept singing until the tech issue was rectified, which showed her professionalism and God’s grace.
After the choir took a break the church raised an offering, which was led by Pastor Lupton then Minister of Music, Scot Stevens brought up Al Edmondson of Edmondson Communications for remarks. Edmondson and his team are responsible for getting the music played on radio stations nationwide. Through their efforts, the Beloved St. John choir has been in the top 100. Edmondson told the audience that starting the week of September 20, the single will be played on Reach Gospel, which has a huge listening audience.
They returned for one more song, “Praise Jesus.” This song was their debut release in 2019 and continues to sit on the charts blessing people worldwide. As the song was nearing the end, the praise dancers came out and added their spin to an already fantastic experience.
It was now time to see the video as it was the big-ticket item of the day. After the introduction, lights dimmed, and anxiety was high as the video began. The video started with the backdrop of the church and the choir standing on church steps. As the music played, you saw clips from parts of Broad Street where the church is located, the BSJ youth on the corner clapping, and the praise dancers coming in doing what they do so well. The video also showed a clip of Scot Stevens at Love Park singing too. It was beautifully shot, as it featured the church family at large, from some of the youngest to the young at heart.
“Jesus You’re Beautiful” is available on all digital music platforms. The video is on belovedstjohn.org and Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church’s YouTube page.
