PHILADELPHIA, PA,
June 7, 2021 – On Monday, June 7, Bebashi – Transition to Hope celebrated the opening of its newly renovated Food-First Pantry.
The pantry, part of Bebashi’s hunger relief services, provides a selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and non-perishable items. It offers clients what many pantries do not – the ability to choose the items that they want.
“As an organization, Bebashi places great importance on ensuring our
clients are treated with dignity and respect,” said Diana Mc Cafferty, Food
Pantry Assistant. “We believe that by giving our clients a choice, they gain a sense of control over their situation.”
To celebrate the pantry was opened with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, and guests were invited to tour the facility.
The new pantry also boasts its completely digitized platform that will allow Bebashi’s pantry staff to track clients’ health data and trends in their food needs and wants and make specialized recommendations for meals based on their dietary requirements.
Individuals who are in need of food can access the pantry Monday to Friday from 11 am to 4 pm.
The organization also celebrated opening its Trans Necessities Closet, a safe space for persons of trans experience or gender non-conforming individuals to have free access to gender-affirming clothing, accessories, and resources, for in-person appointments.
“Bebashi prides itself on being an all-inclusive, non-judgmental space. Our Trans Necessities Closet is one of the programs offered to the LGBTQ+ community, which aims to be a safe space through which the voices of individuals of trans experience and gender non-con- forming individuals could be amplified,” said Nafisah Houston, Director of Programs.
To schedule an appointment for the Trans Necessities Closet, individuals should contact Keisha Gabbidon-Howell, Supervisor of Prevention Education and Trans Necessities Closet Coordinator, by emailing keishag@bebashi.org or call 215-769-3561 ext. 131.
