Ballot Questions are just as important as Voting for Candidates

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Thus far this election cycle, I’ve been sharing a lot of news and information about the upcoming Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Primary Election. I shared who the candidates are who are running for Mayor, Register of Wills, Sheriff, City Council for Common Pleas Court, and Municipal Court. I’ve outlined what a Mayor is supposed to do, what a register of Wills is supposed to do, and what a Sheriff is supposed to do. I’ve written about what a wise political candidate should do to try and help them win a political campaign: They need to be out in the public meeting people and sharing their agenda. They need political campaign materials to work with, such as palm cards or brochures. They need to raise a lot of money; so they can purchase lawn signs and posters, and hopefully they can purchase ad space in the SCOOP Newspaper on radio and TV. They have to be out there meeting the public almost 24/7. They need opt have a team of volunteers as well as some paid staff. And in my head, if you are a political candidate, you need to act like the energizer bunny. You have to keep going and going You can’t get tired. You have to leave no stone unturned; as you seek out votes so you can win.

There are about six weeks between now and Primary Election Day, and over that time, I will repeat some of the Civics lessons shared in earlier, more recent columns. I will also share some campaign information not exposed in this column before. For example, I plan to go into detail about the different roles a City Council person plays, as compared to some of what a City Council At-Large councilperson gets to do.
