Without question, American democracy is under attack, and it’s been under attack in a more pronounced way from the time Donald Trump took his oath of office as the 45th president of the United States. Currently, in America, it seems as though time has been rewound to the Jim Crow era. There’s a constant effort to roll back civil rights and voting rights, amongst other things. A few days before a meeting with President Biden at the White House, leaders of top Black organizations came together to declare a state of emergency over the erosion of civil rights and the undermining of Democracy in the United States.
The leaders in attendance Friday, September 2nd included the Presidents of the National Urban League, the National Action Network, the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the National Council of Negro Women, (NCNW).
The discussion involved President Biden and the heads of our nation’s largest historic civil rights organizations.
