The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omega Omega Chapter hosted a FREE public Gun Violence Prevention Day event, including a Gun Buyback for the community on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Belfield Recreation Center.
Partners for the Gun Violence Prevention Day were: Belfield Recreation Center Advisory Board, Canaan Family Life Center, Independence Blue Cross Foundation, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, and The Philadelphia Police Department-35th District.
In keeping with Alpha Kappa Alpha’s goal of commitment to servant leadership, the Omega Omega Chapter continues to implement international programs, support, and services Exemplifying Excellence in the Philadelphia community. The Gun Violence Prevention Day is to focus on preventive measures while taking guns off the streets that threaten the quality of community life of all families, particularly our youth. We also held workshops for parents, youth, and service providers to raise awareness of gun violence and reduce the number of gun deaths and injuries in the community and voter registration.
The Omega Omega Chapter, chartered in 1926, is the oldest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in the Philadelphia region. With membership of 583 college-educated women, the Omega Omega Chapter prides itself in having served the Philadelphia community for over 96 years. This award-winning, exemplary chapter has provided stellar community programs.
