AHARI – A Home Is A Right, Inc. is a Pennsylvania 501 c(3) founded in 2011 by Executive Director Stephanie Booker–with the purpose of providing all homeless veterans and their families permanent supportive housing options. Booker founded the organization while completing her Capstone Project for her Master’s Degree at Eastern University.
AHARI’s mission is to provide permanent supportive housing to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families and to help at-risk and under-served veterans become self-sufficient. AHARI is committed to establishing collaborations with other nonprofit organizations with a similar passion that provide housing, programming, and auxiliary support services. AHARI is a definite community partner, working to help build our communities, using their Mobile Hunger Relief program and Getting Vaccinated Matters Campaign to be impactful and provide education and resources. Through these programs, AHARI provided food, clothing, personal care, shoes, PPE gear, and culturally relevant COVID-19 education to over two thousand community residents. AHARI hosted twelve pop-up vaccine clinics from July 2021 through January 2022 and helped over one hundred people get vaccinated–and this is just the beginning of the hard work and dedication that AHARI will provide Veterans and families in our community.
Now, AHARI is entering its development stage with plans to build an affordable Veterans housing unit in an already gentrified area of University City. AHARI has secured a vacant lot of 1.3 acres of land and is seeking funding for the project.
