Lord, we Thank You for the men and women who, according to Romans Chapter 13, are called by you to Protect and Serve us.
One day at about 4:30 am, I received a text message that one of my city police officers had been shot while confronting a perpetrator in a domestic abuse call. I immediately went into my police chaplain mode and started praying for the Officer and his family. I also prayed for the entire department and their families as well. Then I prayed for the perpetrator’s family because of their loss, but I didn’t stop there. You see, I also prayed for the woman and her children, who were–and had been abused for years by the perpetrator. This will be a lifelong trauma for her and her children. I hope and pray they will seek to counsel and know that God will help them overcome this nightmare.
Now, I’m glad that I can say that God answered my prayer because the Officer–was released from the hospital some hours later. I dedicate today’s message and the following poem to him as well as all the men and women who are sworn, To Protect and To Serve.
