A few words about Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth has passed after a long and what appears to be a very fruitful life. Sometimes I struggle to be a journalist and a columnist. As a columnist, as I often point out to people, one is expected to state personal opinions. It’s ok. When writing an article, a journalist is supposed to remain unbiased and not express personal thoughts. Just tell the facts: who, what, where, when, and why. Over the years, I’ve gotten very spoiled by having the opportunity to write for the SCOOP as a columnist because more often than not, I do share my personal opinion. 

My parents taught me that if you can’t say anything nice about a person, then don’t say anything at all. I’m sure many of our SCOOP readers have been brought up the same way. 

In the case of the great Queen Elizabeth, I do have a few things to say. In all due respect to her history and stature in the world, from where I sit and from what I know of the “Monarchy” under her rule, Queen Elizabeth was a kinder, gentler ruler than perhaps ever before in the history of the United Kingdom. Particularly in her last 30-plus years or so, she simply looked like everybody’s grandmother, all short and sweet, frail and harmless looking. To her credit, it appeared she was very well respected almost worldwide. Generally, it seems that world leaders liked the old gal. And I say that to lighten the moment, not to be disrespectful. 

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot of history, some of which I sort of store in the back of my brain. Then I sort of forget about–until somebody brings up that particular history.
