Chester Women’s Health Conference

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Chester Bureau of Health held the first of what will become an important annual event for the women of Chester and the surrounding boroughs. The Chester Women’s Health Conference, held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, was graciously hosted by Widener University in Latham Hall, with over 150 people in attendance.

Opening with “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” sung by Hazel Legette, and the welcome by DCHD Population Health Manager Ieasa A. Nichols, who served as the moderator, introduced remarks by The Honorable Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland, Vice President Strategic Initiatives, Widener University, Dr. Kathryn Herschede, Market President, Keystone First Joanne McFall, CIO for the Foundation for Delaware County, Joanne Craig, MS, The Honorable Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA District 5), The Honorable State Representative Carol Kazeem (159th District), after which the program started in earnest.

Conference presenters included Cynthia McKnight, Stephanie Reese, and Dr. Erkia M. Dawkins, with WDAS-FM Radio Host and Author Patty Jackson as the Keynote Speaker.

Cynthia McKnight has been a mentor, platform speaker, coach, producer, and entrepreneur for more than 29 years. McKnight’s topic was “Investing in Yourself,” a segment from her “Courage to Climb” brand. McKnight can be found on Facebook, YouTube, and other social media platforms. McKnight’s message of women investing in themselves struck a chord with all the women in the room, especially after she reminded them of their tendency to care for others at the expense of themselves.

Stephanie Reese has dedicated her career to improving the health outcomes for the communities she served, and as the Administrator for the Delaware County Health Department’s Personal Health Division, she was instrumental in establishing the Delaware County Wellness Centers in Yeadon and Chester, Pa.; for which she provides daily leadership and clinical oversight.
