How to Deal with Grief?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We Affirm That God Is Our Very Help In The Time Of Trouble. Therefore We Praise Him Now And Forever. Amen.

Bereavement is the path we take to go through grief. Grief is a healthy and natural reaction we have to a significant loss. Most of us associate grief with the death of a loved one–but we can grieve for a number of different reasons, such as infertility, miscarriage or stillbirth, birth defects, brain injury, chronic illness, negative change in one’s way of living, even transitions due to job loss, moving, financial problems, divorce or separation. As you can see, all of us have or will grieve at one time or another, for it is a part of life.

JESUS said, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted!” So how do we deal with grief? How do we find comfort? I’m so glad you asked.

First, we must accept the loss or the change in our lives. Denial causes us to block the reality of what has happened. Grief is a process that takes time, and the length of time is different for each situation and each person. So acceptance is the first step to healing and getting through the trauma of the situation.

Second, we need to seek support and create positive reactive activities to our grief. In other words, seek counsel, join a support group or develop a change organization–in honor of your loved one. Write a book or article about your experience. But whatever you do, don’t just stay in your grief moment and deal with it alone. If you do, it will kill you. Do you hear me? Seek help, my friend, seek help!
