7th Street Bridge Ribbon Cutting

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Following four years of inconvenience, barriers, and the eyesore of construction, the 7th Street Bridge leading to the downtown shopping district was re-opened with grand fanfare during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The bridge is a vital part of the infrastructure in the city. The original two-span steel bridge was constructed in 1920. The reconstruction of the bridge began in 2018, at which time the bridge was weight restricted and could not support heavy vehicles. School buses, emergency vehicles, and delivery trucks had to be re-routed through the neighborhoods, causing countless delays and endless traffic headaches for residents. With the opening of the 7th Street Bridge, all three County-owned bridges in the City of Chester are all in good condition, ensuring a critical and necessary infrastructure improvement for Chester residents, businesses, and commuters.
