Reading Time: < 1 minute

HARRISBURG, Dec. 21 – On Tuesday, House Democratic Majority Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, was a presenter at the ‘Celebrating Paul Robeson High School’ event in West Philadelphia.

The event served as a milestone that recognized Paul Robeson High School’s transformation and accomplishments; while under Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration. Paul Robeson High School Principal Richard Gordon also was presented with a citation from the state House of Representatives for his accomplishments during this time.

“The students at Paul Robeson High School are in good hands. The staff and administration at this school have shown, time and again, that they truly care about their students’ futures,” McClinton said. “In a time of the historic ‘learning loss’ that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic, Principal Gordon and the staff here persevered and refused to let this raging pandemic jeopardize the educational opportunities that were key to students’ success.”

“The students and staff at Paul Robeson High School have accomplished something remarkable, and it’s a testament to the fact that when we invest in our schools, we are investing in a brighter future for our kids and our commonwealth,” Wolf said. “The $3.7 billion increase in funding we’ve achieved over eight years is a life-changing investment for students across the commonwealth and their communities.”

Tuesday’s event also touched on the educational legacy of Wolf and the school’s 45-plus accolades and awards, while under the Wolf administration.

A few of those awards include Philadelphia’s first-ever Pennsylvania State Principal of the Year and three-time National Principal of the Year (third in Pennsylvania’s history, first minority).
