Black Bar Owners Raise Money for Youth in College

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Philadelphia Licensed Tavern and Merchants Association (PLTMA) just hosted its
38th annual Black Tie Gala Scholarship Awards Banquet Sunday, November 6. It took place at Iatse Ballroom in South Philadelphia, where some 8-college students received $1,000 scholarships each, thanks to PLTMA. The funds are targeted to help students already in college pay for books next semester or to help them purchase a meal plan. A thousand dollars may not be a heck of a lot of money to some people, but when you are in college and if you come from a low-income family, trust me when I say these funds can help.

Mark Broadnax the current president of the PLTMA, stated, “All of the owners of bars and taverns that are members of the Philadelphia Licensed Tavern and Mer- chants Association are asked to have scholarship appli- cations available at their places of business, along with the criteria for the scholarship. The next applications to be considered must be turned in by September 30, 2023, to a bar or establishment that is a member of PLTMA.”
