Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity will host a citywide meeting Tuesday, October 25th starting at 6:00 pm at Tenth Memorial Baptist Church at 1328 N. 19th Street in North Philadelphia.
Reverend Robert Collier, Sr. stated, “To end gun violence, we need a multi-layered approach. Police and courts, simply cannot solve every problem in every neighborhood. Instead, we need multiple levels of public programs and services that transform not only neighborhoods but the social inequalities that are at the root of the violence.
Black Clergy doesn’t have all the answers, but what we do have is the concern, commitment, and willingness to do all we can to begin to turn things around in Philadelphia. Away from violence and instead towards job training, education, and more opportunities for people to connect with positive programs. Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity is pleased to partner with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and other like-minded community organizations to launch the 57 blocks project.”
Reverend Gregory Holston added, “We are calling on all concerned citizens to come out and join us Tuesday evening at Tenth Memorial Baptist Church, where we will start with a meeting and discussion about concerns with violence in our city. At 7:00 pm, we’ll hold a press conference where we will unveil (to the media and those gathered) a complete outline of our “57 Blocks” Project. From 2015 – 2021 in Philadelphia, there have been 57 blocks that have had (10) or more shootings on each block.
