Congressman Dwight Evans and State Senator Art Haywood help lead the way to SAVE Chestnut Hill Hospital

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I tell you, as a journalist who pumps out three columns a week for the SCOOP and an article once in a while for the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, there’s never a dull moment in the news. Unfortunately, so much of the news is bad news or sad news. Sometimes as one of those people who helps to share information about what’s happening in our city, state, nation, or the world, I am joyously happy, over the moon happy, when I can simply share some good news.

For a minute there, well actually for more than a minute, it was looking like Chestnut Hill Hospital was going to fall to the wayside like Women’s Medical did, Hahnemann Hospital did, Germantown Hospital did, Metropolitan Hospital did, and Graduate Hospital did, like Mercy Douglas did–all former Philadelphia Hospitals.

Thanks to the smart work and the hard work of United States Congressman Dwight Evans and Pennsylvania State Senator Art Haywood, Chestnut Hill Hospital, prayerfully, will live to see another 100 years. During a zoom press conference held last week, a number of the key players who fought to keep Chestnut Hill Hospital alive were in attendance.

The agreement they’ve come up with will need the approval of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office and Tower Health bondholders. Tower Health is the current owner of Chestnut Hill Hospital.
