The Black Women in Sport Foundation 30th Anniversary Sneaker Ball

PHILADELPHIA, PA May 2022—From the playing field to the board room! For 30 years, the Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) has been committed to increasing the involvement of Black women and girls in all aspects of sport. BWSF will celebrate this milestone with its BWSF 30th Anniversary Sneaker Ball Celebration on June 11, 2022, at 5 pm (VIP Reception) / 6 pm (Gala), at Temple University Aramark STAR Complex, 1816 N 15th St, Philadelphia, PA 19122. 

The Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) 30th Anniversary Sneaker Ball is a formal fundraising gala to help move things forward for black women and girls in sports. BWSF will recognize honorees from the sports world and the local community who support its mission to empower Black women and girls. BWSF was co-founded by Professor Tina Sloan Green. Dr. Nikki Franke, Dr. Alpha Alexander, and Linda Greene, Esq., who were brought together at Temple University. 

Monique Braxton, Emmy Award-Winning Broadcast Journalist, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the gala. This year’s honorees are 

· BWSF Living Legend Award: Vivian Stringer, Coaching Icon 

· BWSF Trailblazer Award: Jemele Hill, Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Co-founder Lodge Freeway Media, Contributing Writer The Atlantic; 

· Community Builder Award: Michael Horsey Chairman and CEO Horsey, Buckner & Heffler LLP; 

· Community Builder Award: Bonnie Rosen, Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Temple University; 

· Community Builder Award: Jennifer Wong, Associate Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Temple University. 

Other highlights of the evening will be a VIP reception, a special performance by Eleone Dance Theatre; dancing the night away in your favorite kicks to tunes from DJ Stan The Man; mixing and mingling, and a raffle. Go to www.blackwomeninsport.org for more information. 

BWSF MISSION 

Established in 1992, the Black Women in Sport Foundation, or BWSF, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the involvement of Black women and girls in all aspects of sport, including athletics, coaching, and administration. BWSF’s work however, is not limited to Black women and girls. It enrolls girls and boys in the programs conducted throughout the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. It facilitates the involvement of women of color in every aspect of sport in the United States and around the world through the “hands-on” development and management of grassroots level outreach programs.
