All money raised goes directly to creating fun and impactful experiences for our campers, during a time when children need summer camp more than ever. According to a recent New York Times editorial called Summer Camp for All, the author stresses that America’s children continue to struggle with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing gun violence. That’s where summer camps, like Camp Jamison, come in, “It’s hard to imagine a more ideal escape for young people living through an extraordinary time of grief, loneliness and upheaval,” she writes. At Camp Jamison, we ensure that all of Philadelphia’s children have the opportunity for that escape through a program that is diverse, inclusive and affordable.
Camp Jamison is unique in the Philadelphia area. We believe that every child should get to experience sleeping in a cabin, hiking through the woods, and roasting marshmallows with friends. That is why since 2011 we created and maintain a one-week, overnight program available to all Philadelphia area children. In a city that is surrounded by so many struggles, Camp Jamison continues to allow children to have a fun-filled week, while also providing activities that strengthen their interpersonal and peace building skills that allow them to be community leaders back in their schools and neighborhoods. Plus, this year in an effort to provide more children with that opportunity, we are doubling our sessions to welcome more campers than ever before.
We invite the community to join us for this Saturday’s hike to learn more about Camp Jamison and to help give our city’s children the escape in nature that they deserve
