She is known for her bubbly personality and her multiple award-winning productions from Urban X-pressions to Single on a Saturday Night TV Show. She is a driven entrepreneur with a heart to empower others to succeed in their respective fields. She is none other than the beloved Shelly Shell Williams. She has been a personal and devoted sister and friend for decades.
It is only fitting that some time is singled-out to get more in-depth knowledge of this mega entrepreneur’s background and passion. So we interviewed Shelly Shell to highlight some of her accomplishments over the years and especially during the era of COVID.
Sherri: Thank you, Shelly for taking time out of your busy schedule to interview with us. Please give our readers some background information on you: Where did you grow up? What were your passions as a young child?
Shelly Shell: I grew up in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. Where my grandfather, Mr. Williams, was one of the neighborhood heroes. He owned the only neighborhood produce store offering fresh fish, eggs, fruits, and vegetables; He also owned a laundromat on the same street and apartment buildings. My grandfather is the first example I saw of a successful business owner, and in my teen years, I had a desire to one day be a part of the operations of his businesses. However, I didn’t exactly know how to make it happen once he passed away.
Sherri: How did your mom influence your decision to work and your current field?
Shelly Shell: My mama supports my career; however never understood it. I knew what college I was going to back in junior high. She was a play-it-safe–go to college, and get a 9 to 5 job type of mom. She wanted to ensure that her children had income, houses, and a retirement plan. I followed her path and went to the college she selected—Pierce College. I chose the major she suggested (Administrative) and barely graduated. I had no interest in what I was doing in school. All I did was talk in class and after class. I often disrupted the class, which would frustrate the professor. I remember her pulling me to the side and saying, “You’re not ready for this career.”
