Today’s civics column is dedicated to new voters–people who’ve never voted before. The following are all the things you can expect if you vote in-person on Tuesday, May 17th, Primary Election Day.
First of all, the polls open bright and early at 7 am and remain open until 8 pm. As long as you are in line even just one minute before 8 pm, Election Day poll workers are still supposed to allow you to vote.
In advance of going to vote, I strongly suggest you make yourself a list of the candidates you want to vote for. If you are unfamiliar with the candidates, you need to familiarize yourself with who is running and for what office.
There are usually always a lot of names on a ballot each and every time we have an election, and if you don’t know any of the names of the candidates, it can be overwhelming.
Now, if you have an internet-accessible computer, iPad, or smartphone, you can get on the internet that way. Log on to www. Votes.Pa.com. Or log on to the City of Philadelphia City Commissioners Website at www.Philadelphiavotes.com.
All the voting information you need is right there at your fingertips. At the very least, on the City Commissioners’ website, you can see the names of all the candidates.
