ScoopUSA Media hosted Please Don’t Touch Me There, a panel/community discussion, luncheon, and book signing on Saturday, March 26th, at the Discovery Center, located at 3401 Reservoir Drive in Philadelphia. The iconic venue, surrounded by its calming waters and native foliage, eased the stressors associated with discussing the delicate topic.
The event marked ScoopUSA Media’s first Women’s Month event. Tackling the subject of domestic violence is a delicate topic, Please Don’t Touch Me There was a discussion shared with honesty, sensitivity, and a high degree of respect for those in attendance and for those whose stories were shared.
Domestic violence is a particularly daunting topic at any time; nonetheless, a topic that should be discussed and addressed far more often.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), violence against women, particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence is a major health problem and a violation of women’s human rights. It’s estimated that about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetimes. Most of this violence is intimate partner violence. Worldwide, almost one-third (27%) of women aged 15–49 years old have been subjected to some form of physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner. Violence can negatively impact women’s physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health, and may increase the risk of acquiring HIV in some settings.
