The City of Dreams Coalition & the Social Music Movement hosted the Community Solutions Town Hall and Dinner celebrating MLK Day. The event included special guests Senator Sharif Street, Rebecca Rhynhart, Philadelphia City Controller, Omar Sabir City Commissioner, and Councilman David Oh, discussing the State of the Black and Brown communities and the mortality of the black youth, as well as recognized community leaders and music industry professionals for all their tireless efforts. As Senator Sharif Street spoke, I felt his sincerity about working on solutions to stop the violence. He mentioned that the city would need upwards of 1 billion dollars to make changes effectively. At this time, the officials have allocated approximately 145 million, and he says, “That’s Not Enough.” No, it’s not enough, but it’s a start as he announced that he would be getting behind the efforts of The City of Dreams Coalition by contributing $100,000 to fund their community initiatives.
Sister Taleah has worked many years without funding, offering her time and working hands-on in the community, going from block to block, helping those in need, and making a real difference. No one person has all the answers, but block by block, The City of Dreams Coalition and concerned other organizations work to reach the youth and the communities. To thank everyone that has been in the trenches, Sister Taleah selflessly honored community leaders and music industry professionals with awards and citations.
